If there is any pain or burning sensation in the stomach or small intestine, water helps quickly in soothing it. The inner surfaces of the digestive system are lines with a protective mucous layer. Water ingested in plentiful amount helps in making this layer thicker. If this layer is sufficiently thick, the hydrochloric acid secreted in the stomach cannot damage the digestive system. Drinking a glass or two 15-20 minutes before any meal or snacks, will ward off problems like acidity, ulcers of stomach and small intestine. Remember to drink water before meals.
